Neoferon is a haematinic preparation prophylaxis of iron, zinc, vitamin and folic acid deficiency and can also be used for the curative treatment of anaemia.
Once pregnancy is confirmed and for the first trimester of pregnancy, Neoferon should only be used where it is considered essential. The use of most medicines is discouraged during the first trimester of pregnancy.
One Neoferon capsule a day 5-10 ml Neoferon liquid once a day during pregnancy. Some pregnant patients may need a higher prophylactic dose of iron because of dietary or other factors.
Treatment for iron deficiency anaemia
Adults: It is recommended by the WHO to take 100 to 200 mg of iron supplement per day for 3 to 6 months, which equates to 15 ml of Neoferon oral solution a day in three equal doses (morning, afternoon and evening) or 1 to 2 capsules a day.
Children: It is recommended by the WHO to take 5 to 10 mg of iron supplement per kilo of body weight per day, which equates to 5 to 10 ml of Neoferon oral solution for a child of 10 kg.
Adults: One Neoferon Capsule a day or 5 - 10 ml Neoferon liquid once a day as required.
Children: 2.5 - 5 ml per day according to the physician's recommendation.
